Crowdsourcing Expertise

As many of you may know, we are currently in the process of redesigning the ENTIRE Voice of Dance site. As part of the process, we've been looking at the different sections that we have online and deciding what we should do with them to revamp them.

In particular, we wanted to really get some momentum behind the 'ask an expert' column. It's a little known secret that the Voice of Dance community contains some of the most well known and well respected names in dance. In fact, many of our regular readers are considered experts in their respective fields.

So, we thought in the spirit of Web 2.0, why not tap in to this incredible resource, and at the same time help introduce some of our members to the dance community at large?

Our initial idea is this... on the main web site, we take 'Ask an Expert' questions from the readers of Voice of Dance. They can be questions on any topic, ranging from equipment recommendations to partner etiquette.

Then, we submit these questions to our friends on MySpace by posting a bulletin. Anyone who feels qualified can answer, and the best answer (or answers) will get posted on Voice of Dance, along with a link to the expert's profile.

The reason this might be an awesome way to do it is because:

1) Multiple answers ensure that the chosen answers are the best of breed
2) It's fair. There's not one 'expert'. Everyone has a chance to contribute.
3) If your answer gets picked, you will get a TON of traffic to your profile from VoD

What do you think? If you have thoughts or ideas on this approach, please let us know by posting a comment. Hope to hear from you!

Rob
